The Declarer (Floyd McWilliams' Blog)

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. The past four days have been very busy for me, even though I have been out of work and at home. Last Monday was my last day at SumTotal Systems (nee Docent before it merged with Click2Learn), and next Monday will be my first day at Google. Later this morning Sherry and I will pick up Evan and Mary on the way to the Coliseum to see the Oakland A's take on the Kansas City Royals. Regular posting will commence tonight or tomorrow.

There's no pleasing some people, 5/17/2004 edition:

Palo Alto police shot and killed a mountain lion at about 1 p.m. today following a tense eight-hour search in which they failed to capture the stealthy cat. Neighbors said it was shot in the front yard of a house on the 1500 block of Walnut Drive, after a black Labrador dog named Kelsey chased it up a tree.

...

Police had launched a search for the mountain lion in the morning. There were a series of reported sightings between 4:45 a.m. and 7 a.m., including near the Hyatt Rickeys hotel.

Not everyone felt good about how things turned out. Linda Snyder of San Jose called the Mercury News to express her anger that the cat died, and that the officers who arrived at the house after the cat was treed didn't have a tranquilizer gun.

``The mountain lion was up a tree, chased there by a dog,'' Snyder said. ``It was scared. It wasn't hurting anybody . . . Why were they just equipped to kill?''

Gosh, now why would animal control officers want to kill a 108-pound mountain lion? I mean, besides the fact, mentioned later in the article, that a mountain lion killed one bicyclist and injured another in Orange County last January?

A bulletin from the civil liberties Utopia that is Europe, where John Ashcroft is nowhere to be found and Michael Moore is given a million euros every time he hints that he might want to produce a movie:

Christophe blogs on monputeaux.com. He is a citizen of the city Puteaux that is close to Paris.

Christophe does not like the way the city mayor manages the city, spends the public money and says it on his blog, every day. He has been very successful doing that, with hundreds of inhabitants of Puteaux reading and commenting his blog everyday and many national newspapers that talked about his blog.

Christophe criticizes the city management so much that they have tried to stop him for months, the city mayor has even sent him threats over the phone that he recorded and blogged, of course.

Today, he has been stopped in the street by the Police Municipale (the local French Police) who tried to arrest him for his blogging. Fortunately for Christophe, the National Police arrived immediately as they found what was happening weird, and let him go.
